 There are many ways to participate more fully in the liturgical life of our parish.  There is a need for parishioners to serve as Processional Cross Bearers, Eucharistic Ministers to the Homebound, Children’s Liturgy of the Word Leaders and Shepherds, and in many other ways.  If you sing or play an instrument please look here for opportunities that match your talents.  We are always looking for musicians of all ages to enrich the worship at St. Elizabeth’s.

ALTAR SERVERS 

Status

 

The Altar Server Ministry welcomes new members in the fall

Job Description

 

Altar servers assist at the altar during Mass and other liturgical celebrations.

Time Commitment

 

The typical rotation on the Altar Server schedule for service is one Mass per month. The New Altar Server Training is approximately 8 hours. Returning altar servers attend a mandatory 2-3 hour refresher training in the fall. A one hour mandatory mid-year refresher training is provided. Optional training for Veteran Altar Servers as trainers and mentors for new Altar Server Trainings, thurifer roles, Holy Week liturgies, and Confirmation is upon invitation, and hours of training and preparation range from 2-8 hours, with service at the liturgies, ranging from 1.5-4 hours in duration.

Qualifications

 

Must have received 1st Holy Communion and finished grade 3 (or equivalent in age)

 

Training

 

The Altar Server Coordinator schedules an intensive 2-day training in the fall, approximately 8 hours in duration. The implemented training model has a hands-on focus, facilitated by a group of the Veteran Altar Servers. The training is augmented with a brief study of the Mass, a tour of the sacristy, sacred vessels, and church space, and practice sessions within the church. Mid-year refreshers are scheduled, normally 1-2 hours in duration.

 

Optional training for Veteran Servers as trainers and mentors for new Altar Server Trainings, thurifer roles, Holy Week liturgies, weddings, funerals, and Confirmation is provided upon invitation, based on the discretion of the Pastor, Parochial Vicar, and Altar Server Coordinator.

CHILDREN’S LITURGY OF THE WORD-LEADER

Job Description

 

This relatively new and innovative program presents an opportunity for children in grades 1 through 6 to celebrate the Liturgy of the Word in a format designed for them. Held through the academic year during the 9:30am Mass on Sundays, members of the parish community lead the children to the parish center for readings, song and spiritual reflection. Leaders are responsible for proclaiming the Gospel and sharing a discussion of the Homily in a two-grade level combination of their choice (grades 1-6).

Time Commitment

 

Leaders are assigned to one 9:30am Sunday Mass per month which will require about one hour of preparation in addition to the 9:30am Mass itself

Job Description

 

This relatively new and innovative program presents an opportunity for children in grades 1 through 6 to celebrate the Liturgy of the Word in a format designed for them. Held through the academic year during the 9:30am Mass on Sundays, members of the parish community lead the children to the parish center for readings, song and spiritual reflection. Musicians lead the children in Psalm and Gospel acclamations, in a two-grade level combination of their choice (grades 1-6).  Instrumental musicians desperately needed, as well as singers, to lead groups of children grades 1-6 in Psalm and Gospel acclamations. Anyone 8th grade and up is welcome to serve as a musician.

This relatively new and innovative program presents an opportunity for children in grades 1 through 6 to celebrate the Liturgy of the Word in a format designed for them. Held through the academic year during the 9:30am Mass on Sundays, members of the parish community lead the children to the parish center for readings, song and spiritual reflection. Shepherds both participate in the liturgy with the children, and help them worship attentively.  The volunteer can specify the two-grade level combination of their choice (grades 1-6).  Jr. High and High School students are welcome to serve in this capacity.  It is a good way for families with older children to serve in a ministry together.

In keeping with Catholic liturgical norms, the extraordinary minister helps with holy communion at Mass and also brings the Eucharist to people confined to their homes.

Job Description

 

The Festival Choir is a combined choir made up of members of the on-going parish choirs, and people who are not able to make a weekly commitment to choir rehearsals.

 

The Festival Choir sings at Midnight Mass, the Triduum Celebrations of Holy Week ( Holy Thursday, Good Friday, and the Easter Vigil)

The 11:30 Mass on Easter Sunday, and at Confirmation.
