CLOTHING CLOSET

Job Description

 

Oversee and organize the clothing closet (which is in the gathering area of the church).  The closet is kept locked.  Donations are left outside the closet and are put in the closet by the volunteers and church staff. 

 

When the closet is full, (every 3-4 weeks) the clothes are loaded into one of the volunteer’s trucks with the help of several parishioners after the 9:15am Mass. The clothes are then delivered to Lazarus House in Lawrence or Catholic Charities in Boston.

We need volunteers to be willing to pass the word along to pray in response to an emergency prayer request.  There are 8 captains who pass the word along to the next person on the list in order to have as many people as possible pray as soon as possible in response to an emergency prayer request.

Job Description

 

Parishioners leave non-perishable items in the St. Elizabeth alcove (left, rear side of the church).  Once a month the 9:15am Mass people load the food and other items into a volunteer’s car.  The volunteer takes the items to the Windsor Ave. Food Pantry across from the Citizens Library.

The Giving Tree program utilizes volunteers to call various charitable organizations in early November to provide lists of those in need of Christmas gifts; then prepare tags with gift information and put on tree Sunday of Thanksgiving weekend.  Help also needed sorting gifts by various organizations and making arrangements for gifts to be picked up before Christmas.

We are looking for both volunteers who have their own trucks, vans or station wagons and those without their own transportation who can be paired up with someone who does have transportation.  The teams of volunteers will travel to area homes to pick up donations of furniture and other household goods and deliver them to the Household Goods Recycling Ministry store at St. Matthew’s Methodist Church in Acton.

Job Description

 

We need skilled registered nurses to help reach out with compassion and healing as Jesus has called us to doSkilled nurses in our parish community promote insight and education on health-related issues, refer parishioners to needed services or resources in our area, interpret the emotional and spiritual dimensions of health and illness, support new mothers and those who are grieving, and help people to understand the health-care industry and relate more effectively to health-care providers.  Most of all, they will do as Jesus did:  extend care and compassion to people in a way that duly acknowledges the spiritual and physical dimensions of the whole person.  Monthly meetings are held, as are regularly scheduled blood pressure and diabetic screenings.

Job Description

 

Parishioners call the prayer volunteers who are listed in the bulletin and leave their prayer requests.  The prayer volunteer types up the prayer requests each month (respecting confidentiality) and leaves copies at the back of the church in the prayer line box for any parishioner to take and pray over the requests.  The deadline for prayer requests is the Thursday before the first Sunday of every month.

Join a group of parishioners who meet periodically for specific pro-life events. Several of the annual events include:

·       Rose sale after each of the masses on Mother’s Day to benefit Springhouse home for unwed mothers in Berlin, Massachusetts.

·       Respect Life Walk to Aid Mothers and Children in Boston (supporting organizations all over) the 1st Sunday in October.

·       Spiritual Adoption education and prayer through the bulletin, followed by the archdiocesan-wide baby shower in January.

Volunteers needed to help set-up, clean-up, distribute groceries and carry parcels to people’s cars for the once a month “Serve New England” buy-in food program.  The Serve New England slogan is “If you eat, you qualify”.  It is a buy-in program that any one can join to buy different packages of meat, vegetables and fruit once a month at discounted prices in exchange for 2 hours of community service (anything outside your home, helping others).

VISITOR AT SUBURBAN MANOR

Job Description

 

Every Wednesday 2-3 parishioners from St. Elizabeth’s visit the nursing home.  There is a 10:00am rosary, 10:30am prayer service and once a month Mass is celebrated.  Holy communion is distributed.  The volunteers set up for the priest when there is a Mass, lead the residents in the rosary and then distribute communion and record communion (recorder does not have to be a Eucharist Minister).  Typically the volunteers complete their visits by 11:30AM.
