Mission Trips

Every summer many of our adults and teens leave the comforts of home to serve others in the name of Jesus.  In a variety of national and international settings, our youth respond to the Gospel by caring for the poor, the sick, and the needy.  Service may include construction, painting and cleaning, building restoration, serving at community kitchens, working with children, caring for the disabled, among other things.

General Information
Costs: The cost of mission trips to Honduras and Alabama includes transportation from Logan Airport (or another local airport). Airline fee, if any, for first checked bag is included in mission trip cost. Cost of additional checked bag(s) is the responsibility of the participant. We strongly encourage air travelers to bring only one checked bag. The cost of trips to Springfield, MA, and N. Arlington, NJ, includes ground transportation from SEOH. Participants are responsible for their own transportation to the airport, personal purchases, day-off activities, food and snacks off-site and while traveling.
Reservation forms for youth participants and adult leaders are to be returned to the office as soon as possible with the required $100. deposit. A reservation form serves to hold a spot. Participants are expected to submit other forms and fulfill all trip requirements in a timely way.

The required ratio of adult leaders to teens is based on CHWC requirements, the need for qualified drivers for 7-passenger vans, and the requirements of responsible supervision. If there are too few adult leaders, teen registrations will be held aside until a sufficient number of adults has signed up.

Youth Safety Requirements: All leaders who are 17 or older when they participate in a mission trip must have done the "Protecting God's Children" (VIRTUS) workshop, and provided documentation of that fact. They are also required to have a current CORI application on file with the parish. No exceptions can be made to these necessary requirements. Those who need to do the VIRTUS workshop are urged to take care of this obligation as soon as possible, at SEOH or another parish. NB: Massachusetts law prohibits us from allowing anyone to serve as a volunteer with youth (e.g. an adult leader) until they have completed a CORI check with the parish. New volunteers must submit their CORI applications early enough to allow for a timely response from the Commonwealth. Please direct any questions to the Youth Ministry Office.

Other Details: Reservations and applications are subject to acceptance by the parish. It reserves the right to give priority to parishioners of St. Elizabeth of Hungary and St. Isidore Parishes and resolve any questions as it judges best, including cases in which there are more applicants than can be accommodated on a given trip. The schedule of meetings, deadlines, and other important information will be posted when they become available. If you have questions, please get in touch with Jim Flanagan, Coordinator of Youth Ministries at SEOH.   This email address is being protected from spambots.
